Hello Rosamond Family. I have updated the database here for your review and use as of May 2009. This file contains data on the Rosamonds beginning with John and Sarah Wilson Rosamond of Virginia, and follows their descendants in their migrations into Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri and Texas (as well as a few other states). For the purpose of getting the data online, I have accepted the family legend that John Rosamond's father was the Sergeant Rosamond who fought in the Battle of the Boyne in Ireland, and finally settled in County Leitrim, Ireland. The data on the ancestry of Sergeant Rosamond is taken from the book "The History of the Rosemond Family" by Leland Eugene Rosemond. The connection to Sergeant Rosemond is uncertain at best.
To try and verify this relationship, as well as the relationship to other branches of the Rosamond family, the Rosamond DNA Project has been established at Family Tree DNA. This project is open to all males whose surname is a variation of Rosamond/Rosemond/Roseman, etc. Please note that the particiapants must be male and bear some variation of the project surname. Women may participate by encouraging their male relatives to join. Decades of genealogical research has gone into attempts to connect the various branches of the Rosamond families but no tie has been found. DNA testing offers a simple, quick solution to resolve this issue. While a 12-marker test may be sufficient to determine the connections, I recommend the 25 or 37 marker test. I personally opted for the full 67 marker test. Regardless of which test you select, please go to The Rosamond DNA Project and join today.
I also want to point out also, that much of the work done in creation of the Rosamond family tree was done by others. In particular, the Rosamond family data has been researched by my cousins Ruth Menhel, Gwen Rosamond Forrester, Betty Hirschman, Barbara Morgan, Tom Rosamond, Jerry Dodds, Bonnie Smith, Debbie Helton, Clara Farmer, Myrtle Rosamond Hyde, William Sam Rosamond, Diane Atkinson and many others.
The Russell data is primarily the work of Jim Buckley, whose data has already been posted on this site. Obviously, many duplicates will occur between his file and mine. The obvious difference is that I have made the assumption that the Rev. Isaiah F. Russell and the Isaiah Russell who was the son of Michael Russell, Jr. of Darlington District, SC are one and the same person. Although I have not yet proved this, I have numerous reasons for believing this is true, and believe that I will be able to document this in the near future.
Data on living persons has been removed by GenCircles after the upload. Notes and sources have been included to some degree. If you are interested in data on a specific person, email me directly at jdrosamond@comcast.net and I will send you the data directly.
Also, please visit my web site at The Rosamond Genealogy Page. Having said all this, I take full responsibility for any errors or misstatements found in this file.
If you wish to contact me you can email me at Jimmy Rosamond.
Thanks and happy ancestor hunting.
