Individual:
Served in the Army in the Civil War but unit is not available. Made his original claim from Teges but later moved to Moore's Creek in Jackson County and lived there in 1890 when claim was made. Listed as 5'-5" height and 144 pounds and had a family bible. Died in 1899 without drawing a pension. Son Allan had good script, was 60 in 1937. In his book about Newfound Creek Henry Banks includes a picture of John Bishop in Civil War uniform on page 166. His book is a good reference on the John Bishop to Allan Bishop to the present generation as well as Newfound itself.
