Individual:
Robert Shearer, Sr. was a popular figure to area children over
the years, having owned and operated the Luling Skating rink in
the 600 block of Davis Street. Mr. Shearer died in Luling on Friday, August 10, at the age of
83. Services were held at the O'Bannon Funeral Chapel at 10
a.m. Tuesday, August 14, with Rev. Joe Beshirs and Chaplin Ron
H. Scott officiating. Interment was in the Luling Cemetery,
under direction of O'Bannon Funeral Home. Pallbearers were
Clarence Klekar, Marcus Garcia, Bobby Bodkin, Raymond E.
McGlothlin, Jerry Tiller, Robert Klekar, and the Air Force Honor
Guard; and honorary pallbearers were Clyde Abercrumbie, Joe
Escalante, Ed Ulry, Richard Boggess, Halemith Poenitz, Ben
Sanchez, Danny VanZandt, and George Pena. Mr. Shearer was born
in Brooklyn, New York, on February 12, 1918, to Gordon Robert
and Ruth Hawkes Shearer. He was married to Dorothy Mae
McGlothlin, in Luling, on December 13, 1941. He retired from the
U.S. Air Force at the rank of Master Sergeant, and also worked
in Civil Service. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist
in Seguin, and the Luling Ministerial Alliance. Survivors
include his wife, Dorothy Mae Shearer, of Luling; his sons
Robert Shearer, Jr. of Sterling, VA, and Phillip Gordon Shearer
of Flower Mound; his daughter, Deborah Lee Klekar, of Luling;
four grandchildren, Rheanne Garcia and Jacquelyn Klekar, both of
Luling, Leslie Ann Shearer of Flower Mound, and Michael Arthur
Shearer of Sterling, VA; two great grandchildren, Zachrey Garcia
and Jeremy Garcia, both of Luling; and three brothers, Gerald
Lee Shearer of Auburn, CA, James H. Shearer of Petoskey, MI, and
Gary Shearer of Harrison, Arkansas. He was receded in death by
his parents, a sister and a brother.
