You are visitor number to this database since 20 AUG 2007. xxxThis database is a companion to the "Stevens/Mansfield/Southworth/Medieval" database, which has an extensive treatment of the descendants of Robert Mansfield of Lynn, Mass. xxxThe purpose of THIS database is record New England Mansfields NOT descended from Robert of Lynn. Two main sources have been used:xxx1- I have extracted 100% of the content (not including all the biographical sketches) of "The Descendants of Richard & Gillian Mansfield, who settled in New Haven, 1639" compiled & published by H. Mansfield, New Haven, 1885.xxx2- I have systematically extracted the census records for Mansfields in all of the New England states from1850 to 1870. There is a scattering of later censuses.xxxIt is important for researchers to be aware that, in this database, I have presumed, unless there is reason not to, that in a census record where there are a male and female of the same approximate age along with children of the right ages to be their offspring, that this represents a "normal" biological family of parents and their children. Of course this leaves open the possibility that I have recorded an occasional nephew or neice incorrectly as a son or daughter.xxxOf course, corrections are always graciously accepted!
