Knox, name not borne as Samuel Willis Knox, private, Company E, Camp Guard, Mallett's Battalion, NorthCarolina, Confederate States Army, enlisted September 24, 1863, at CampHolmes. He was subsequently assigned as a private to Company C, 37thRegiment North Carolina Infantry, C.S.A., and the muster roll of thatcompany for January and February, 1865, last on file, shows him present.
He was surrendered by General Robert E. Lee and paroled at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, April 9, 1865.
