Individual:
Born in a tavern, orphaned at age 2, raised as a bond servant.
Whileliving at Sheffield, North Carolina with the Chestire family JohnCalhoun was asked by Mrs. Chestire to accompany her visitors, a youngwidow and a young child to her home across a foot log over a swollenstream. Her name was Louisa Little Beeman, she married John Calhoun onAugust 15, 1844 and six children were born to this marriage. John Calhounwas a farmer with large amounts of land. On December 5, 1858, JohnCalhoun, a widower with six children married Rachel Baity and fourchildren were born to this marriage. In latter years, John Calhoungrieved for his bother Isaac who was taken to Tennessee by the SainFamily and never returned. When a child was born to Robert Lee andTabitha Booe they named him Isaac, John Calhoun rejoiced. He was at peacebecaused he believed that Godsent this child to take the place of thebrother that was taken to Tennessee. This Isaac could grow up in theForks of the Yadkin.
It is stated that John Calhoun attended Bear Creek Church, John Calhoun and one of the other members had a disagreement over a cow and a turnippatch. It was taken before the church and the church sided up the otherindividual that made John Calhoun upset so that he left this churchcongregation. He and his second wife is buried in this Church Cemetery.family 114 on the 1870 Federal Census - Davie County, North Carolina.
