Notes
Individual:
Glennie moved with her parents to Richmond County in 1895. She attended
a one-room school near Rockingham (Wolf Pit Section) and later the VanceStreet School in Hamlet. Her early church years were in the PleasantGrove Baptist Church, south of Hamlet and her teen and adult years inHamlet Baptist Church, where she was active in various activities andlater sang in the choir.

It was at church in 1914 that she met Elbert Plummer Pearce. Two weeks prior to their wedding, Glennie became ill with double pneumonia and herdoctor insisted the wedding be postponed. Since the invitations were inthe mail, the doctor finally agreed the wedding could proceed, but onlyif the bride "would not wear her 'flimsy' wedding dress, and wear a hatand coat instead" (the weather was snowy).

She consented to wear her "Going Away" outfit. The newspaper write-up read "... from the opposite aisle the bride, dressed in a handsome blue,fur-trimmed coat with hat and gloves to match, carrying an armful ofbride's roses, entered ..." (her bridesmaids were dressed in eveninggowns). The wedding trip had to be postponed.

Prior to her marriage, Glennie clerked in the Lackey Brothers Clothing Mercantile, Main Street, Hamlet.
