Individual:
At fifteen, he joined the Red Bud Baptist Church. He was a student of
Franklin County Schools and Buies Creek Academy. In 1900 he marriedMattie Kind, who died in 1911. They had no children.
He moved to Hamlet in 1914 and met his future wife Gleenie Maske, who he married December 21, 1915. He was a member of the Hamlet Baptist Church(now First Baptist); served on the Board of Deacon; Superintendent of theSunday School for 28 years; Chairman of the Baord for 18 years; and wasserving in both capacities at the time of his death.
He was a farmer and dairyman (Ideal Farm Dairy), yet spent a large portion of his time promoting the religious and social betterment of hischurch and community. He established his home about two miles East ofHamlet, Highway 74.
His influence spread throughout the Pee Dee section of NC. He died at age 65, at home in Hamlet on August 22, 1943; interment in Mary LoveCemetery.
