Individual:
Willis Bradley was the illegitimate son of Willis Bradley who came from
overseas, and lived in Virginia. His mother Betsy married a man by thename of Jim Smith, who owned a blacksmith shop in Newfort. Betsy boundWillis to a man in Cleveland County, North Carolina. After he worked outhis time in boundary, he married Ruth Self and moved to Catawba River,South of OldFort, or Rutherford County.
Here is a bit of information from the abstractof the 1850 Rutherford County census (found by Judson Crowe)
page 173 gives the following information for the Willis Bradley Household number 1380;
Willis Bradley age 60, Laborer, born in NC; Ruth, age 54, born in NC; Hampton, age 22, Laborer, born in NC; Caroline, age 16, born in NC; NancySmith, age 80, born in Va.
From the age given for Ruth Self she would have been born in 1796, and Willis would have been born in 1790. We have no information on her deathso Ruth Self dies AFT. 1850. David Bradley found Willis in the 1860census as a Laborer for Thomas Hemphill. So Willis Bradley diesAFT.1860. I can only presume Nancy Smith age 80 from Va. would berelated to Willis possibly Betsy Smith. So Nancy (Betsy) Smith born 1770dies AFT. 1850.
The date of their marriage was November 17th 1812. and to this union the following children were born:

Homer Lee Walker recorded this information from an interview with Sarah Carolina Bradley Parker (Grandma Mauley)
Willis was a cripple the last five years of his life. Seated in a straight short-ladder-back chair, he moved too near to the edge of theporch, and fell off -- probably broke a leg or a hip.
