"David Cox, a farmer, lived on a hundred and three acre tract of land called "Lubberland", which lay on the north branch of the Potomac River at the mouth of Licking Creek (between Ernstville and Parkhead Stations of the Western Maryland Railroad) in what is now Indian Springs District (15) of Washington County, Maryland."
The Cox place was about nine miles from "Maiden's Choice," where the Shelbys lived. The Great Stone Fort Frederick, erected by the Province during the French and Indian Wars, stands three or four miles to the Southeast."

(1) Tradition states that he came with his brother John from Scotland in the early 1700's to settled in VA and married when he was 24. After his marriage he brought his wife to his new home on the Potomac River, at the junction of Licking Creek.
