Was on the census for Lafayette Co, Missouri in 1830.11 Resided in Lone Jack, Jackson Co, Missouri in 1831. Was on the census for Barry Co, Missouri in 1840.79 Joshua died in Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co, California on 1 Oct 1864; he was 64.45,67,77 Buried in Oct 1864 in Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co, California.80,78 Occupation: 1840 - agriculture.79“Some others bought lands or made claims and did some work during the summer and autumn but did not move until the spring of 1831. Of this number were William Crawford, Charles Hopper (Big Charley), and Joshua Hitchcock.” “Hopper selected his home a short distance east of the lone tree... and Hitchcock a little farther east, a part of the Miller Easley farm, same section (18).”53
When the Mormons were expelled from Jackson County, some took refuge with members of the extended Hopper family near Lone Jack (Sni-A-Bar Township). Edward and Nancy Larkey recalled, “Bros.
