Individual:
1820 Broome Co., NY census, page 18, along with brother Daniel and George Lane. Nathan Lane is on page 14, along with a Dr. Caleb Hyde.
From John Fildew , David Lane was born 24 Sep 1781 in Mass and died 1865 in Ingham County, MI. He married Aura Sage. When dams were built across the Susquehanna in the Windsor, NY area, David secured permission to build one by special act of the State Legislature in 1809. That was reworked and rebuilt in 1821. By the late 1820s, land around Windsor had been cleared, and the need for sawmills reduced. David, following the lead of his son Marcus, moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1833. The following year he bought a section (640 acres) of government land and became a pioneer farmer in Onondaga Township, in (southern) Ingham County MI, a county only recently carved out of Washtenaw County. He was then in his late 40s and his second wife, Sarah, was in her 20s. It is not entirely clear, but apparently some of their increasing family ( 3 sons and 4 sons born to Sarah - added to the younger of the nine children that Aura and David had before 1817) continued to live in Broome County NY or were reared there by relatives. David lived on his farm near the town of Onondaga until his death in 1865 at the age of 84. Sarah continued to live on the farm after that, and several of their sons, as well as David's grandson, Robert Geddes Lyon, leaved nearby.
John sent this pedigree:
"David lived on his farm near the town of Onondaga until his death in 1865 at the age of 84. Sarah continued to live on the farm after that, and several of their sons, as well as David's grandson, Robert Geddes Lyon, leaved nearby. David first married Aura Sage, daughter of Seth Sage , Rev. & Phoebe Wilcox. Born on 13 Oct 1781. Aura died in Windsor, Broome, NY on 24 Jul 1820, she was 38." They had the following children:
6 i. Mariah (1804-1837)

Charles followed his older brother into the law, becoming his partner in the Ypsilanti law firm. He became Circuit Judge and another leading citizen of the community. Like Marcus, however, he died at the early age of 35. He and his wife Wealthy did not have children. Charles Wellington married Wealthy A. Satterlee.
vii. William. Born on 23 Apr 1816. William died in never married bef 1891, he was 74.
viii. Chloe. Born on 24 Jul 1818. Chloe died in Ann Arbor Twp, Washtenaw County, MI on 6 Mar 1856, she was 37. On 12 Mar 1839 when Chloe was 20, she married Robert Geddes, son of Robert Geddes & Jane Sawyer, in Washtenaw County, MI. Born on 11 Dec 1797 in Lebanon County, PA. Robert died in Ann Arbor Township, Washtenaw County, MI on 11 Mar 1866, he was 68.
David second married Sarah Dimmick. Born in 1802 in Penn. Sarah died aft 1865, she was 63. They had the following children:
i. Elijah S.. Born in 1826 in Broome County, NY. Elijah S. died in prob MIch. Occupation: farmer. aft 1850 when Elijah S. was 24, he married Sarah. 9 ii. Jonathan D. (1826-1889)

v. Jane E.. Born in 1834 in Broome County, NY. vi. David W.. Born abt 1837 in Broome County, NY. Youngest of the 13 Lane children, David responded to the call for enlistments during the Civil War. He went to nearby Jackson, and signed a three year (?) enlistment in Company C of the Third Michigan Calalry Regiment on that had been organized from Grfand Rapids in Septmember 1861. The Regiment had been mustered into U>S> Service in October 1861, and was engaged in action in the western campaigns. When David's company joned the Regiment, it was engaged in actions in Missouri. The Regiment returned to Michigan on "veteran's furlough" in early 1864, then returned to action in Tennessee. David re-enlisted at LaGrange, Tennessee and served until after the war ended. The Third Cavalry was engaged in the very latest "mopping-up" actions of the war. David was discharged at Baton Rouge, Louisana [where he possibly was reunited with his first cousin, Charles Comstock Lane, same age as David, but had entered the Confederate Army from Baton Rouge], on June 2, 1865. The Third Michigan Cavalry saw service in 10 states, occupying more territory and marching more miles than any other regiment that was organized in the state. It had entered service with 1160 officers and men. All told, 2264 men served in the unit. Of those, 24 were killed in action, 9 died from their wounds and (unfortunately typical of the war) 333 died from disease. 8 died while in Confederate prisons.
vii. Aura.Aura married __________ Wooden.
