Will probated Dec. 1873 Pickens, SC. The following was sent by John Keys Knox: Obituary of Charles Thompson Walhalla Courier, Issue: Thursday 10/2/1873, Died the morning of the 17th at his residence 5 miles above Pendleton, aged 74 years, father of Colonel Robert A. Thompson.

The following E-mail is from John Keys Knox to George Thompson June 1999:
"I descend from Robert Anderson, George McD's brother. I procured a copy of James' will from the SC Archives. In it it has a Wm. and a James as sons. Is the William listed my Charles' father(?) Any help would be appreciated. I was sent this abstract about a week ago and I thought I would forward to you for your comments. (I highlighted the siblings in bold. I wonder what that was about? Have you heard of a Ranson Thompson before?) From a court abstract provided by Lynn Morris: Estate of Ranson Thompson (according to Lynn Morris Ranson is the uncle of R.M. Grant listed). Box 119 #8. Probate Judge Office. Pickens, SC. Est. Admr.. 29 Sept. 1891. By Robert A. Thompson, James E. Hagood, R. A. Bowen. Summons of relief mentions John W. F. Thompson, Rebecca M. Grant, R. A. Thompson, against George McD. Thompson, S. Frances Hamilton, Charles Neal, Silas M. Neal, John W. Neal, the heirs at law of Abbie Dean dec'd. names and resident unknown. The heirs of Dempsey Thompson unknown, the heirs of Rebecca Evatt unknown, (from loose papers). On 20 Nov. 1838 James H. Dendy promised to pay John L. Thompson (son of Fleming) $2.72 due him under the will of his grandfather Eli Davis. Robert Thompson, Duel. Pack 226 #9. Clerk of Court Office. Pickens, SC. On 26 April 1960 Placidia Adams made oath that Robert A. Thompson and Warren R, Mashall are engaged in or about to engage in a duel to be fought on or about the 27 April 1860.
