Note:
When the Civil war broke out in 1861, Arkansas secede form the Union and Joseph joined the Confederate Army. Company F34, Arkansas Infantry, Commander William H. brooks. The unit served in Arkansas. The 34th Arkansas Infantry Regiment was also an alias for the 2nd Ark Inf. Reg. The most important battle in the state was in 1862 at Pea Ridge, Elkhorn Tavern, which is now a military Park. The 2nd Ark. Infantry served in the following battles: Murfreesboro, chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta, Franklin and Nashville. Of these the 34th Inf. served only in those battles which were in Arkansas.
Discharged from military service 6/1/1865. From Federal land Records from Bureau of Land Mgt which included Homestead and Cast Entry Patents before 1908 for what is now Benton CO. AR, Joseph Ford Follows: in 5/4/1885 Sec no 18 T 20 N R 30W 120 acres
and also 5/4/1885 Sec 7 T 20N R 30W 120 Acres.
Their farm was near Ford Springs which is where they kept their watermelons and milk etc. to keep cold. A large spring adjacent to Sugar Creek. 5 Sons are buried at Hickman Cemetery at Pea Ridge.
