Individual:
LDS Ancestral file (on-line) gives POB as Nansemond, VA. However, a tree (with no source notes) in Ancestry.com called "the quillin Family tree" by Ronnie Quillin indicates the birth place as East Lothian, Scotland. This tree lists Jacob's parents as Wilhelm Joseph Dietrict Von Brake b: 27 APR 1689 in Delhorst Hanover Germany & Maurie Elizabeth Douglas b: c1694 in Alshire, Scotland. He called her "Lady Alkinoch Of /Dougalas". He lists Wilhelm's parents as Rudoloph Zur Lippie Von Brake b: c1640 in Hanover, Germany & Dorthea Elizabeth Von Waldeck. He gives the father of Rudoloph as Casmin Von Bretch. I have no idea if this is all correct or not.

Family tradition says that Jacob came from England & settled first in Nansemond Co., VA., then moved to Edgecombe Co., NC. Evidence has been found of his owning land in Virginia in 1743 & 1749. While family tradition says that he settled in Edgecombe Co., in 1742, it seems more likely that he settled in Nansemond Co., in 1742, since he owned land there in 1743 & 1749. We know he moved to Edgecombe Co. before 1761 because he is mentioned in a will with that date. He patented land in Edgecombe Co. in 1762.
