Notes
Individual:
Served in WW I, in Co. D, 5th Reg of Engineers, first as private, then corporal, then sergeant. He saw battle in France. He is listed in "A War History of Company D 5th Regiment of Engineers" published April 1st, 1919 at Camp A. A. Humphreys, PA. During the war, he was gassed in France with something that impaired his lungs from then on (per letter from Bess Fisher Dixon dated July 8, 1987). During the earlier time he was in south Texas in the Army, and he was a part of a US expedition into Mexico chasing Pancho Villa.
