Individual:
Bess was a wonderful mother. She worked many years as a school teacher in Merkel, TX. She had a good sense of humor and helped me with the family genealogy.

MERKEL - Bess Dixon, 80, died Monday, September 27, 1999, in DeSoto.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Merkel First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mrs. Dixon was born in Kaufman County in 1919. She was the widow of Shady Dixon, whom she married in Wichita Falls in 1942. She attended the University of North Texas and received a B.A. degree in education and a master's degree from Hardin-Simmons University. She moved from San Angelo to Merkel in 1960. She was a member of Merkel First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a member and past president of Merkel Fortnightly Study Club. She taught eighth grade English in Merkel for several years. She moved from Merkel to DeSoto in 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Joe David Dixon of Driftwood, John Thomas Dixon of DeSoto and Richard Andrew Dixon of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 3rd and Locust St., Merkel 79536.
