" Fortunanatus C. Bryan, whose residence in the Pottsville sectionof Hamilton County fo r fifty - four years, has indissoluably linked hisname with the citizenship in character of progress and developmenteconomically, civically, religiously and educationally, has passed on tothat bourne free from which no traveler e'er returns.
Mr. and Mrs. Bryan were spending the winter months in Port Arthurwith their daughters, M rs. Luther Ferguson and Mrs. W. C. Spivey. Withoutwarning, Mr. Bryan died suddenly of a heart attack at nine o' clock inthe morning of Monday, January 4. The body reached Hamilton on Tuesdayabd was conveyed to the family home at Pottsville. A large company ofsaddened friends and sorrowing relatives assembled at the Cotton BeltRailroad Station in the city to receive the remains and joined thecortege to the residence. Funeral ceremonies were arranged for Thursdayafternoon that a sister, Mrs. Will Dansbee, of Bisbee, Arizona, mighthave the priviledge of being present.
At the Primitive Baptist Church in Pottsville, where Mr. Bryan hadserved for so many yea rs as a leading spirit, and whose consistent lifehad lent beauty and confidence to the faith he espoused. The services ofthe last rites were held at one o' clock, Thursday afternoon. ElderChambers of Lampasas of Lampasas conducted the impressive rites.
Burial was made in the Pottsville Cemetery. His was another added tothe plot where slee p others of this noble family.
The mother of Fortunatus C. Bryan, who was born in the state ofAlabama on September 5, 1 854, was one of the most remarkable womenconnected with the history of Hamilton County. Mrs. F. ( sic ) E. Bryanpreceded her son in death by only two years. She lived to the advancedage of 97 years; retaining her faculties almost entirely up until thelast illness. She had gone to church, received her friends and engaged inmany activities belonging to the lives of younger folk. Fortunatus Bryancame to Texas soon after the Civil War. He was happily married to MissNettie Crunk in Hunt County. They came to the Pottsville country fifty -four years ago and engaged in farming and ranching with notable success.Their marriage was blessed in the birth of ten children, six of whomsurvive to comfort their lonely, heartbroken mother. The sons are C. H.Bryan, Zephyr, Texas, E. A. Bryan, Lorene; Billy Bryan, Pottsville;Richard Bryan, Evant; and the daughters, Mrs. Luther Ferguson and Mrs. W.C. Spivey , Port Arthur. Other survivors are a number of grandchildrenand greatgrandchildren, three sisters and five brothers. The sisters areMisses Betty and Mary Bryan, Pottsville; Mrs. Will Dansbee, Arizona; andthe brothers are J. B. Bryan, Goldthwaie, W. R. Bryan, Lubbock; J. F.Bryan, Pottsville; and D. ( sic ) F. Bryan, Cleburne.
Fortunatus Bryan " Walked with God and was not for God took him "and loved ones and frie nds wait patiently for the reunion in the sweetbye and bye, and are consoled by knowledge of his emancipation from thetrammels of earth life.
