Note:
Like so many of Louisiana's families of French origin, those bearing the name BABINEAUX are today clustered in a relatively small area of the state, nearly half reside in the Teche country.Nicolas Babineau dit Deslauriers, born in 1653 in France, arrived in Acadia in 1671. He married in 1687 Marie-Marguerite Granger, daughter of Laurent Granger and Marie Landry.
Clement Babinot, son of Nicolas and Marguerite, married January 11, 1717, Renee Bourg, daughter of Bernard Bourg and Francoise Brun.
The first member of the Acadia clan to reach Louisiana was Louis-Charles Babineaux, son of Clement and Renee. Louis was born on March 14, 1723. Louis-Charles and his wife, Anne Guillebout, arrived in Louisiana in 1765 via the West Indies. Settling in the Attakapas District, he became the sole progenitor of Louisiana's Babineaux family.
Louis-Charles' four sons, Dominique, Joseph, Theodore, and David, firmly established the family name in theAttakapas District. Dominique and Joseph were born in Acadia; Theodore and David were born in Louisiana. Dominique and Joseph made homes near Carencro. Joseph, born in 1762, married Felicite Cormier ca1786, and died in 1827.
Most of their descendants remained in that area well into the twentieth century, some living as small farmers and stockmen, others living along the Teche near Breaux Bridge and Arnaudville.
