JAMES BOICOURT OGG
James Boicourt Ogg, age 91, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, after being
housebound in his Willow Street home for an extended period.
James Boicourt Ogg was born on March 15, 1916, in Ottawa, Kansas, to Courtney Stamp Ogg and Mary
Phyllis Boicourt Ogg. The Oggs were an important part of the Ottawa heritage as they had several grocery
stores in town and were well known throughout Ottawa and Franklin County. The Oggs had two sons,
James Boicourt and Howard Courtney Ogg who currently resides in Oolagah, Okla.
James B. Ogg married Elizabeth "Betty" Seevers Ogg in 1946 and they resided in Ottawa throughout their
married lives. James and Betty owned and operated Ogg's Market on West Sixth Street for more than 40
years. Ogg's Market was known for it fresh produce and meats and personalized service.
Jim and Betty lived on South Willow and were parents to James Courtney Ogg and Maribeth Ogg. Betty
Ogg passed away in June 1983.
Jim was active in the local Elks Club and achieved Exalted Ruler status as well as national recognition in
the Elks national ritual competition. He was awarded a lifetime membership in the National Elks Club for
his work.
He was a member of the local Masonic Lodge and the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
When healthy, Jim gave freely of his time to many local people and groups and has supported many
charities throughout the years.
Jim was loved and admired by all who knew him through the years. Although his health had deteriorated, he
always remained optimistic and kept his sense of humor. He will be remembered as a very gentle,
thoughtful and kind man.
James Courtney Ogg and his wife Joan live in Stow, Mass. Maribeth and her husband Alan Brennaman live
in Shawnee, Kansas, and have three daughters, Courtney, Kelsey, and Elizabeth "Libby." The girls called
him "Bompa" and they were his "pride and joy."
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at the Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 14, 2007, from 6-8 p.m. at the Lamb-Roberts
Funeral Home in Ottawa, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the St. Labre Indian School or the Kansas Heart
Association and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
The family would like to express their warm, heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Cindy Thomas and Debi
Gentry for their wonderful care during the last year.
