Individual:
The Jeremiah Dalton that I found to have been born in Listowel, Kerry, also said to have died 9 Nov 1876 , which is very close to our ancestors actual death date, so this birthplace, is probably correct. He immigrated before 1821 to Prince Edward Island, Canada from Ireland. He died in his sixty-ninth year at his home, after an illness of seven weeks. There is no longer a stone, says his great granddaughter, Thelma Dalton. He was a farmer. It is believed he was born in Ireland and came to Prince Edward Island, Canada with his brother, Peter. They probably came in the wave from Ireland about 1820 or slightly before, getting out when the British were taking over. It was easier for them to go to Canada, a British possession, than it was to go to America. But then many of them emigrated from Canada to America. In the 1841 Census, Jeremiah and Catharina lived in Lot 7. His occupation was shipscarpenter and he listed their religion as "other". According to the census, there were two people in their family that were born in Ireland and six more that were born in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The census counted three boys and three girls under the age of sixteen and one man aged sixteen to forty-five. Catharina was not listed because "his wife has been afflicted about 15 months, appears to be recovering from this malady." In the 1861 census, they were still living in Lot 7 and he was now listed as a farmer, and he now listed their religion as B.Xn. (Bible Christian). The household consisted of one girl aged sixteen to twenty-one, one man aged twenty-one to forty-five, and a couple aged forty-five to sixty. Jeremiah's death was listed in two newspapers. In the 13 December, 1875 edition of the Examiner (pg. 3) - "At his residence, Lot 7, on November 7th, after an illness of seven weeks, Jer. Dalton, sen. in the 69th year of his age." Another newspaper confirms this information, and it continues on with more information (10 Dec 1875 edition of Weekly ? Patriot - pg. 3).
