Individual:
John Ike, one of the oldest men in Elkhorn Grove Township, passed away at his home near Mille
dgeville, Illlinois, on Monday, October 30, 1905. He usually enjoyed very good health for a man of his years and he was seriously ill only week. He leaves to mourn the death of a good father, four daughters and one son: Mrs. E.J. Wade, who has kept house for him for many years; Mrs. A. M. Baker, of Eldora, Ia.; Mrs. Almira Matthews and Mrs. L. A. Holly of Polo and George Ike of Ayr, Neb. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Isaac Ike of Kenvil, N.J., Herbert Ike of Penn. and Sarah Best of Stanhope, N.J..
John Ike was born in Somerset County, New Jersey November 5, 1819 and had he lived six days l onger he would have reached his eighty-sixth birthday. April 26, 1845, the deceased was married to Margaret Barnes in Wilkesbarre, Pa. and ten years after their marriage they came to Winnebago County, Ill., living there for three years. They then moved to Coles County, remaining there nine years and moving in February 1867, to Elkhorn Grove, Carroll County, where they continued to reside and where Mrs. Ike died April 1, 1891.
Mr. Ike was a conscientious well meaning man. He was anxious to treat his neighbors and al l with whom he had business dealings, fairly.
