OBITUARY: The Columbia Daily Tribune, Monday, April 21, 1941 -MRS. MARY OLIVIA TURNER DIED SATURDAY - Mrs. Mary Oliva Turner, 88, died at the University hospital, Saturday evening. Funeral and burial were at Mr. Zion church at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The Rev. George Newkirk conducted the service.
Mrs. Turner is survived by these children: O.H. Turner and Mrs. Margaret McCammon of Columbia; Mrs. Mary Cox of Centralia; Mrs. Navy Brown of Stephens; Dr. G.L. Turner of Los Angeles, CA; Alonzo Turner of Chula Vista, CA; Claud Turner of Auxvasse. Four other children predeceased their mother. Mrs. Turner was born on a farm of which the plot of ground on which Mt. Zion church now stands was a part. She lived in Boone county
all her life with the exception of a few months spent in Texas. In 1867, Mrs. Turner attended Stephens College. She was married to James Perry Turner September 16, 1869. Mr. Turner died May 12, 1912.
OBITUARY: The Centralia Fireside Guard, Friday, April 25, 1941 - FORMER CENTRALIAN DIES IN COLUMBIA - Mrs. Mary Olivia Turner, widow of the late James Perry Turner for many years residents of Centralia, died at the University Hospital at Columbia Saturday night April 19 after an illness of erysipelas. Mrs. Turner suffered an attack of pneumonia a month ago from which she reovered and was able to return to her home from the hospital. She later developed a severe case of erysipelas and was taken back to the hospital.
She was born and reared on a farm which was a part of the plot now occupied by the Mt. Zion Church and with the exception of a few months spent in Texas, Mrs. Turner lived her entire life in Boone county. She was 87 years of age.
In 1867, Mrs. Turner attended Stephens College at Columbia. On September 16, 1869 she was married to Mr. Turner, who preceded her in death May 12, 1912. Ten children were born to this union, four of whom are dead. Those surviving her are: O.H. Turner and Mrs. Margaret McCammon of Columbia; Mrs. William Cox of south of Centralia; Mrs. Navy Brown of Stephens; Dr. G.L. Turner of Los Angeles, CA; Alonzo Turner of Chula Vista, CA; and Claud Turner of Auxvasse.
For a number of years Mrs. Turner and family resided on a farm seven miles south of Centralia, but after the death of Mr. Turner, she located in this city and resided here for several years. For the past ten years she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Navy Brown at Stephens. Her many friends in this community will regret to learn of her death.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Mt. Zion Church by Rev. George Newkirk. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
