Confederate Soldier per Tombstone Records of Boone County, Missouri by Evans & Thompson.
The 1900 Federal Census shows his mother Arthusa living with him on his farm. The census states she was 79 years of age and a widow.
Weekly Missouri Statesman, Friday, September 10, 1875 reads "W.K. Sturgeon has sold his farm, four miles east of Hallsville, to James P. Turner at $15.00 per acre. It is well improved and contains 120 acres."

OBITUARY: Columbia Daily Tribune, Monday, May 13, 1912, Page 1: J.P. TURNER DIED THIS MORNING - "Has resided in Rockyfork Township for many years." WIFE AND 7 CHILDREN SURVIVE - "Was One of Community's Highest Respected Citizens and Had Resided On Farm On Which He Died for Many Years." J.P. Turner an old and highly respected citizen of Rockyfork township died at his home four miles northeast of Hallsville last night at 11 o'clock after a lingering illness of several months. Mr. Turner is survived by his wife and seven children, who are: Alonzo, Orville, Claude, John, George and Miss Navy Turner and Mrs. William Cox. The funeral of the deceased will be preached at Mt. Zion church tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock by Rev. L.L. Presser, pastor of the church. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion cemetery. Mr. Turner was born and reared in Boone county and has for many years resided on the farm where he died. He was one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of Northern Boone county. He believed in higher education and several of his children are graduates of the state University.
