The only certain relationships proven there are that Joseph is the father of William Carr. Otherwise we know that Rolly Spinks married one of Joseph's daughters and that Robert Carr is another son. The Hornaday and Williams connections look good, but the Caviness connection is "proven" by Caviness researchers connecting to William Carr. The daughter Carr who married John Williams is likely a grand-daughter as identified in the will of William Austin Carr's wife, Susannah (unknown).
"I have no idea who the wife Phebe of Joseph's Last Will &Testament is, suspect she was a second wife. He was definitely married to Jane in 1772. Guilford Co, NC DB 1, p188, called Jane Carr twice in the body of the deed but it looks to me like she may have signed it as Jean Carr, hard to tell for sure. In Nov 1772 Joseph Carr deeded the land to Jennings Thompson (prob from Granville Co, NC), and in Mar 1773 Jennings Thompson deeded the same land back to Joseph Carr. "
"The first time I find Joseph Carr mentioned in NC is 1764/65 in both Cumberland and Orange counties. I believe that our Joseph Carr is the son of Joseph & Elizabeth (Coleman) Carr and grandson of William & Sarah (_____) Carr of Westmoreland Co, Va. I also think that our Joseph Carr may have been married to Jane Reid, dau of Joseph Reid who died in Fairfax Co, VA in 1750. " (end of quote) [Since identified as correct information]
Randolph County Genealogy Society Journal, Vol. V, No. 1 1981 Winter There is a reference to a 1785 petition signed by Joseph (JC) CARR. A petition to move public buildings, stocks, etc to the center of the county was signed by Joseph CARR and Robt. CARR along with several SPINKSes. pg. 18, 25, 26 "Randolph County Tax List 1785 - List taken by William Richards, Esq., Capt. Garner's District:
Joseph CARR 1 white poll 2 black polls 700 acres Robert CARR 1 white poll 400 acres"
23 Nov 1804 JOSEPH CARR to son ROBERT CARR of Hancock Co, Ga a man named Hardy & wife Alice & a girl named Nina. To son WILLIAM CARR of Randolph Co, NC a man named Frank and his wife Nan and a boy named Randal. To SIL ROLLY SPINKS of Randolph Co, NC a woman named Phillis, a girl Mill and one called Little Pat. To grandson ISIAH HORNADY of Randolph Co, NC a girl named Selax. Hancock Co, GA DB G
The Carr property in NC was adjacent Benjamin Williams and John Williams in 1811. Williams is the common name of sons-in-law and a grandson-in-law was John Williams. (looking for info on this Williams family, which has eluded me so far). Note: Flat Creek intersects deep river barely inside southeastern Randolph Co., a couple of miles west of Bennett, Chatham Co., North Carolina.
Info from other sources:
Another Joseph Carr / Joseph Kerr died in Randolph Co., NC, and his will is in Book 1, page 2 (1779). It does not appear the two families are closely related, as this Joseph appears to be Quaker and a pacifist while the family of the other Joseph includes a Tory soldier. It is included here as a reference only.
