Text: William Carr of Flat Creek in Randolph Co., NC (just above the Moore County line, and just west of the Chatham Co. line) enrolled as a Tory for Col. David Fanning in Chatham County, NC and was a Lieutenant on the 1st of Sept. 1781. He was promoted to Captain and was "Now in N. Providence West Indies 28th of Nov. 1789." He apparently got married on the same day that Col. David Fanning did, as in "The Narrative of Col. David Fanning" by Lindley S. Butler, David indicates that "myself and Capt. Carr were married ... I took my wife and concealed her in the woods with Capt. Carrs ..."
An inventory of the notes and bonds belonging to the estate of William Carr, certified and returned the 6th of Aug 1838 indicates Enoch Spinks, Lewis Spinks, John Craven, William Lane, Aaron Tyson among others. The comment "several of these are Moore County names" appears on an extract of this document in the Spring, 1994 issue of the Randolph Co., NC Genealogical Journal (Vol XVIII #1)
William Austin Carr's grave is in Randolph Co., NC where son Henry Carr was said to have been in 1783. Cemetery info is at the bottom of this record, before children are listed. Randolph County, NC was formed from Guilford Co., NC in 1779.

"Gatlin Cemetery Survey - Ernest GATLIN, an active member of our Society, who lives near Erect in the southeastern section of Randolph County, did a survey of family cemeteries in his section of the county. One of these cemeteries is still being taken care of by family members, others are now abandoned and overgrown. His listing is printed here in the hope that they will help some of you, and in return there is a chance that maybe some of you will be able to add known burials. (ENG)" (13) Start at crossroads of 2873 and 1002, go east on 1002 for 2 miles, turn left on road 2876 go .2 mile, turn left on 2886 go .5 mile crossing creek at the ford to top of hill, turn left on private road go .4 mile to house, park, walk south in old __ad " (road?) .4 mile to lower edge of field. This graveyard is at the edge of field about 25 yards in the woods, there are 50 or 60. The only marked stones are: William A. CARR born May 20, 1763 died April 6, 1838; Susannah wife of William A. Carr born May 8, 1767 died May 23, 1859; Lidd JONES aged 78 years died Oct.7, 1837. CARR cemetery."
From the Society's journal Volume IV, No. 4, 1980, Summer: "The following is a list of wills (originals) from Randolph County, N.C., found at Archives & History, Raleigh, North Carolina. These wills were compared with the Will Books, the book and page is given. Key: name; date on Raleigh file; book and page in Randolph Co.'s Will Book, date of will, (date will was probated)."
'"Carr, Susannah - 1859; B.11 p. 302, 1844 (1859)." - This will does not list Henry Carr as a son. He lived until 1842, and the will was written in 1844.
The following information may be relevant to another William Carr, as overwhelming info indicates that this William A. Carr was a Tory. William Carr entered the Revolutionary War at an early age.
Notes for Susannah [Unknown]: Was her surname Alexander or Austin? Jones? No evidence, just speculation. Lidd Jones was buried at the same cemetery with William A. Carr and Susannah. He (she?) died aged 78 on October 7, 1837. That would give a birth-date of about 1759, too young to be the mother or father of Susannah. The will of Susannah Carr does NOT mention a son Henry Carr, who died in 1842 (2 years before will was signed). It mentions: "my four children (viz) John Carr, Jane Williams, Susannah Needham and Nancy Williams ..." The will was signed November 6, 1844 and was executed August term 1859, Randolph Co., NC (Randolph County Will Book 11, page 302).
