Hi Howard, here is an outline on what I believe is the Franklin CO NC Cope family.
Mariah Cope who Marr. James Collins 12 Apr 1841 may be the Dau. of Thomas Cope who Marr. Nancy Stallings 26 Nov 1821 in Franklin CO NC with Bennett Stallings as BM -wit: S. Patterson.
Thomas Cope was BM for this marriage-
Temperence Collens to Bennett Stallings 18 Feby 1832 Franklin CO NC and wit. S. Patterson.
Thomas Cope is listed the son of John Cope who died 1820 Franklin CO NC who had a 2nd wife Polly Jones Marr. ca 1816.
It is believed this John Cope is the son of Thomas Cope listed on the 1790 Wake CO NC census.
John Cope is listed on the 1795 Franklin CO NC will of William Simmons and info on this family was sent to me from a Sonia at SONIAGREG@prodigy.net in 1999.
Sonia showed William Simmons had a son who Marr. Rebecca Carr, 2nd Marr. to Susannah GUPTON and 3rd- Marr. to Elizabeth Cleaves.
I have for years tried to find out more info on Thomas Cope of 1790 Wake CO NC who died in 1818 Overton CO TN but left sons in Wake CO NC.
I may have found Thomas Cope listed on the 1764 Lunenburg CO VA tax list .
FYI- there is a Peter Collins who died in E. Bradford, Chester CO PA will 9 Oct 1733 - 29 Oct 1733 who was married to Elizabeth Buffington. On his will he listed this-
to wife all estate real and personal during life and after her decease to my brother Daniel Collins or his heirs and if Robert Collins children should come , my estate shall be divided among them.
Exr: wife Elizabeth, Richard Buffington JR and George Martin trustees.
Wit: Richard Buffington, George Martin and Damson Osson.
Peter Collins was married to the Dau. of Richard Buffington who is a trustee on the 1697 New Castle CO DE will of Oliver COPE. Peter Collins brother-in-law was Thomas Buffington who Marr. Ruth COPE Dau. of Oliver COPE.
Elizabeth Buffington Collins Marr. 2nd John Freeman in Nov 1734/35 Chester CO PA and these people are mostly Quakers except Richard Buffington SR and Baptist convert in 1697.
I have another Collins family listed with William Buffington son of Thomas & Ruth COPE Buffington in Hampshire CO VA 1760s . This Collins family married into William Buffington's family . It appears that Luke Collins 1760s Hampshire CO VA and his Poss. son Thomas Collins he ( Marr. Ruth Buffington Dau. of William ) are related to William Buffington of 1760s Hampshire CO VA who died 1784 Hampshire CO VA. His parents Thomas & Ruth COPE Buffington and Peter Collins are on the 1715 Bradford, Chester CO PA tax list with John COPE son of Oliver COPE.
