Information from Nellie A GARD: A pewter plate in possession of Nancy (GARD) DIGGLE is inscribed: "Mary NASH to Sarah HANSHIRE" This gift of the plate would be 1774 or earlier, before Mary Hancher married Cornelius Gard. Things as valuable as a pewter platter were not lightly given by country people in those days. Nellie GARD felt that Mary NASH was a relative, and that the wife of Joseph Edwards or James Caudy may have been named NASH. Sage and Jones shows just one Nash in Hampshire County naming her Martha Nash. Sage and Jones shows a will p-106 James Alexander will: 8-11-1768 proven 5-11-1773 wife Sarah, daughter (---) wife of Thomas Littler, Martha NASH relationship not shown, sisters Jane Laurener, Elizabeth Laurener, 2 sons of brother William, other not named. Executors: Thomas Littler and Henry Fry. Witnesses: William and Elizabeth Hughes and Richard Mynatt. "Early PA Land Records" by George E McCrackin (Orig Publ 1893) Compiled from minutes of the Board of Property, Province of PA. There are 12 land records for PUGH, with familiar first names, and 28-30 land record for Edwards. Careful research of these and Glen's Welch Founders of PA may help to establish the ancestry of Joseph Edwards and the name NASH.
