Honorable John D. Steele
Feb. 19, 1852 - April 17, 1899
John D. Steele was born Feb.19, 1852 in Henry or Mary County Tenn., and came to Arkansa s with his parents in 1854. He lived in Arkansas until 1875, when he returned to Middle Tennessee. He was married at Morresville, Tenn. in December 1877, to Miss Emma C. Kirkland, and came back to Arkansas in 1884, locating in Poinsett County, where he was engaged in farming. Mr. Steele was chairman of the Democratic County executive committee of his county for ten years. He never held any other political office. He had lived at Bay Village for about fifteen years.
Arkansas House of Representative John D. Steele of Poinsett County and Member of the Ark ansas Thirty-second general Assembly died Sunday, April 17, 1899, at 3.15 P.M. of pneumonia at the Wailland Sanatorium, 603 East Markham Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. He had been ill about ten days. In the legislature Mr. Steele was a faithful member, always watchful of the interests of the people, and was well liked by his colleagues. His wife and seven children survive him. An escort committee, consisting of two Representatives and a Senator, took the remains to the home of the deceased Sunday night. All seven children lived to adulthood.

Burgess Steele reared his family at Harrisburg, AR., and Roscoe C. and Roger Steele rear ed their family at Monette, Arkansas. Mackie reared her family at Wynne, AR; Pearl reared hers at Harrisburg, Ellen reared hers at Bay Village; while Lee Anna reared hers in Poinsett County.
John D. Steele has one grandson, J.D. Steele; of Monette who has just celebrated his 80t h??? Birthday on Nov. 8th.
The Steele name will never die, as there are Great-grandsons and Great-Great-grandsons to car ry on the âÇúJohn SteeleâÇù name.
