Much of the later information on this family (1850 forward was provided by Bettiann Lloyd Genechaser@aol.com ====================== "Richard & Stacy Espinoza" ========================== Thank you for your E-mail. The George Washington Downs that married Rebecca Conever ( I have spelling of Cornwear and Cornear ) was not one of the five brothers that went to Jennings County Indiana although he was undoubtedly with them, he would have only been 10-12 years old. The spelling on the land grants for Rebecca's father George is CONVEAR. Any way one of the five brothers that did go to Jennings County, Indiana was Henry Downs, he was the father of George W. Henry was the third brother to receive land in Jennings County. George, March 24, 1838- Benjamin, Henry, and Samuel all April 24, 1839- William 1840 and Robert 1842. The lands were mostly if not all in Spencer township, Jennings County and the information can be found at the Vernon Indiana library in Jennings County. So if the story about the five brothers has a twist. First there were six that bought land from 1838 to 1842, perhaps they got the land at different times and moved their families at a later date together. Well I'm rattling on. George W's father Henry is buried in Ohio along with his wife, Anna Seabrook and a couple of their children that died young. I have alot of information on this family going back to Delaware in the early 1700's If this is of interest and make any sense to you at all please get back to me. What is your line from George W.? I'm not sure I have run in to any of Henry's descendants. Hope to hear from you soon Jim Downs Richard & Stacy Espinoza wrote: Dear Jim: I saw a posting you made in 1998 about the Downs family line that came from Holmes County, Ohio to Jennings County, Indiana, and I believe my great-great grandfather was one of those five brothers. His name was George Washington Downs, who married Rebecca Conever. I'm trying to find any information I can because all I have is some census data from 1870 and 1880. If I can help you with something in particular about the Downs family line, please let me know.
