At the Newman Baptist Cemetery, in Lawrence Tqp. Stark Co. Ohio where there are nemerous HALLS buried there is a HALL stone that is "illegible". This could be the stone of John Hall, although there is no mention of a stone for his wife Judith. There is a stone there of Nathaniel HALL (possible brother of John) with birth date on it of 1798. wonder what the death date is????? ======= JOHN HALL DIED JUNE 29th 1816 AT THE AGE OF 53 YEARS.(DEATH NOTICE) CANTON REPOSITORY NEWS PAPER JULY 11 1816 PG. 3 COL 2 "DIED-AT HIS RESIDENCE IN TUSCARAWAS TOWNSHIP, ON SATURDAY THE 29th VERY SUDDENLY, MR JOHN HALL IN THE 57th?? I am looking for information on the family history of Edward HALL son of John and
Judith HALL. My Grandfatehr was Edward Livingston HALL son of Edward and
Sarah. I am looking for information on him specifically but need family history as
well. I am looking for any information on the Hall family history in Berlin/Holmes
area. Edward HALL and Sarah (MCCLURE) HALL. Married 6/15/1828 Edward was
born 7/21/1806 and died Dec 8, 1880; Sarah was born 3/17/1809 and died 10/6/1872;
Edward HALL was the son of John and Judath (WORTINGER) HALL. approx 1770s
?? (No information on the family at this level). At this level I begin picking up
references to Holmes Co. Ohio -- Children of Edward and Sarah: John HALL (b.

Jim,

I just located the summary of the Hall Family history researched,
complied and prepared in 1998 by Janice Dobbie, with additional
information contributed by Paula Hall Way, both great-granddaughters of
Edward Livingston Hall. (I incorrectly stated in the my last message
that I was a great granddaughter of E L Hall when in fact, I am a great
great grand). Jan and Paula are a generation above me. Jan descends, as
I do, from Salina Hale Hall first wife of E. L. while Paula descends
from his third wife-Annie Guenther Hall, who was only 18 when she
married the 50+ E. L.

You may or may not know of the following information, in any event, I
thought you may be interested in the opening paragraph of Jan's summary
(although she may have updated or added to the information by now).
Note: She writes as the great granddaughter of Edward Livingston;

She begins......."While some sources give John Hall as his (Edward
Livingston Hall's) great grandfather, based on a search of records in
England-Longham, Norfolk, parish of East Dereham- it appears that an
Edward Hall who married Hannah Baldwin on July 26, 1756 in Bawdeswell
(very near Longham) is more likely. They had a son, John, who was
christened on July 31, 1758 and a daughter, Hannah, born 1761 in East
Dereham. There was also a son named Edward. It seems logical that this
is the family related to E.L.Hall, but there is no way to be certain at
this time."

Jan continues.....""We do know that John Hall married Judith Hastings on
December 26, 1783. Judith was born to William and Frances Roper Hastings
in January 1763 and christened on the 17th. of January in Longham,
Norfolk, England. She had a twin sister, Ann, who died as an infant. A
sister born later was named Ann, a practice common at that
time........John was a High Sheriff in Dundee, Scotland and emigrated to
Philadelphia in 1792. Sometime prior to 1800, they went to Ohio
territory....".

Guess one could go on all night so I will stop and wait for your
thoughts on all of this.

Harolyn

I think I have located where the Hall family farm was.
I got som maps from the Stark County Commissioners.
Its just north of Pigion Run. Pigion Run is still on
the map. Its in section 24 of Tuscarawas twp. it would
be on the corner of Graber St & Greendale St
Have you found the problem with your computer?
Mine crashed a couple of months and I still can't
get into some programs.

I think we've been in contact before, but I've since misplaced the letter I
had a copy of explaining the circumstances of John Hall and Judith Hastings
emigration to Philadelphia in 1792. I read something about him helping
people during the last yellow fever epidemic in Philadelphia that summer. As
I recall, he left England under threat for his political sympathies with
Thomas Payne's writings. I was also interested in the connection between
Judith Hastings' father William Hastings and Warren Hastings, the viceroy in
India. Is there any justification for referring to William Hastings as a
Lord? If so, what connection does he have to the noble Hastings families of
that period? Answers to any of these questions would appreciated.

Regards,

Ross Hadley

After I left you Saturday morning in Mt. Hope my wife and I set out to
find Pigeon Run, which we did. Actually it's more a road than a village.
I never did see anything that resembled a town. We found three churches
that fit the description of Pigeon Run Church. The first which I thought
was the real McCoy is where Samuel Hall, his wife Susan and daughter are
buried. There was also a Jacob and Susan Snyder buried there. Seems like
the Downses, Halls, and Snyder families where close. It was called
Pigeon Run Church but was not the one on your map.

So we went on and found a second church on Pigeon Run Road named Myers
United Church. I talked to a gentleman and was told the church was 150
years old. So that ruled out as the church Curtis Downs attended in
1810.

The third church we stopped at was Newcomers Chapel of Pigeon Run. We
talked to a gentleman there and was informed the church was 190 years
old. BINGO! This church is located at Pigeon Run Road and Sacgaugh
Road. There is a small grave yard there and I saw one grave that was of
interest. The name was John Shall or Shaw or S. Hall. I am in the
process of writing the rector to see if there are any records. Also the
gentleman at this church informed us that there was an older graveyard
on down the road back in a woods. We pursued this lead and confirmed it
to be true but the farmer that owned the land that the grave yard is on
was not home and the property was posted. So we will check this out next
trip.

The church you mention at Graber St. and Greendale St we never did
find. Nice meeting you and Mariyln. JIm Downs
