Yes we have corresponded before and have not found any connecton to our
Downs lines. The Downs line in Holmes County, Ohio is not connected to
the line In Coshcoton County, Ohio in the early 19th century. Perhaphs
later.
The progenitor of the Holmes County Downs line is Curtis Downs and Ann
Hall who were married in Jefferson County, Ohio in 1808. Curtis was born
in Mispillion Hundred, Kent County, Delaware in 1777 and along with his
wife Ann is buried in Mt. Hope Ohio. Curtis's father and Mother were
Benjamin and Nancy Owens.
Ann's parents where John Hall and Judith Hastings. John and Judith came
to America from England through Philadelphia in about 1792 although I
came not find the ship manifest. Ann was born in England in 1789.
John Hall Downs (1811-1887) is the son of Curtis and Ann Hall. He is
buried in Van Buren, Ohio in the Bechtel Cemetery along with his wife,
Margaret Foreman. I have seen the stone, below are my notes
"Hall is not on his tombstone, just John Downs, and on the reverse side
Margaret "his wife" is named along with two of his daughters Judith A.
(no dates), so she may not be buried there and Mahala 1850-1920. It is a
big stone tall and slender about eight feet tall right on the front row
in the middle. Birth and death date are on the stone. Also next to John
and Margaret's stone is "Mary Adaline wife of Henry Downs d. December
16, 1871 21y 8m 21d. This would be John and Margaret's daughter in law,
Mary Adaline Nelson.
I do not have much on Mahala. Can you help me there? Jim Downs
