Individual:
Capt. Richard Taylor made his home in Granville County, NC. In the early
fall of 1778, the invasion of Georgia by the British general Prevostcaused the American colonists to raise forces for the defense of thesouthern colonies. A brigade of militia was raised and mobilized atCharlotte, NC, engaged to serve for six months in Georgia and SouthCarolina. There is preserved the affidavit of Pleasant Henderson ofGranville County (North Carolina Records, Vol. 2, P.129) that he servedin this force as a lieutenant under Capt. Richard Taylor of GranvilleCounty, in the regiment of Col. James Landis.
