GEDCOM ImportSkule blev utnämnd till jarl av kung Inge på dennes dödsbädd 1217,
detta efter önskan från hird och här. Skule kom att föra anspråk på
kronan, men 1223 erkändes slutgiltigt Haakon Haakonsson som kung.1237 gav kung Haakon, som äktat Skules dotter, Skule hertignamn, men
försökte samtidigt inskränka Skules makt. 1239 tog därför Skule
kunganamn i ett uppror mot Haakon. Med sin armé drog Skule söderut,
slog Haakons armé vid Laaka i Raumerike men led nederlag vid Oslo.
Skule tog då sin tillflykt till ett kloster i Nidaros. Detta sattes
dock i brand av birkebeinarna, och då Skule kom ut med sina män stacks

grandfather of "King Inge and Duke Skule", their father presumably
being Baard although this is not stated in this passage[155]. Duke of
Norway, he was a contender for the Norwegian throne in 1239. m
