John, Lewis Jr. and Andrew fought in the Cayous Indian War, after the
Whitman Mission massacre.
Original land claim- Provisional Govt. Tuality dist. #4238, 557.57 ac. 125 3w 20,
At the bute on road leading to Tuality plains. Intends personal occupancy, 18 Dec.
1846. ( At statehood, these original claims were ignored,) but the U.S. Gov. set up the Donation Lands act, giving them the land in Linn Co. 1854- Donation Land claim, Linn Co. Tangent area. (Now located astride I-5). With Lewis's adjoining, to the west.
Went to California during the Gold Rush, where he met, and married Maria (Mariah) Davis, in San Francisco. Returned to Oregon. Bef. 1859, they had returned to live in California. Settled in Tulare Co. where he raised, and trained wagon teams. He ran freight wagons to the miners in the Sierra foothills. Later, leased the Buena Vista Rancho.

Barbara Maria was first married to Hiram Davis, in Indiana. They had two
children, Mary, and Jefferson. Hiram Davis died in Indiana while his
family was on the wagon train to California. Jefferson died on the way.
