The earliest known ancestor of the Leaming family in North America is Christopher Leamynge, who settled near Southampton, Long Island, in about 1670 and soon after married to Hester Burnet, daughter of Thomas Burnet of Southampton who was the grandson of Alexander Burnet, 11th Laird of Leys. Shortly before his death in about 1696, Christopher had established his family at Cape May, NJ. My branch of the Leaming family ended up in southwest Kansas by way of Iowa, Indiana, New York and Connecticut.This file also memorializes the lineage of John Hodgekinson of Preston, Lancs. and such families as Townsend, Hand, Pennington, Newell, Garlick, Griffin, Bradley, Parsons... and more.
