Notes
Text:
Email from Rich Holmes, rsholmes@alum.wpi.edu: "Yes, since I wrote I learned of that article [Margaret Harris Stover,"Samuel Holmes of Montville, Connecticut," Mayflower Descendant,September 2000] and read it. Incidentally Stover didn't list a sourcefor the 'Grace Chapman' note, and when I emailed her to ask about it, sherealized that was an error; the name should be 'Grace Chapel,' with thesource being the Chapel Families section of Baker's 'History ofMontville.' Apparently there are no primary sources for this and Bakerdoesn't say whether it's the same Nathan Holmes but it seems likely. Ifso then this Grace is probably the 'Grace, wife of Nathan Holmes' who isburied in Poolville, Town of Hamilton, Madison County, New York (in thesame cemetery as Grace Chapel's sister Lydia and, perhaps, her brotherPeter); Nathan may then be the Nathan Holmes who is said to have movedfrom Connecticut to Hamilton to Farmersville, Cattaraugus County, NewYork and is buried there. Unfortunately the connection from Nathan of Montville to my 2nd greatgrandfather, Hiram Holmes of Hamilton, is still not proved although I'mpretty sure it's correct."
