Was active in the church.
LDS film #1010743, Northfield Congregational Church, Litchfield, CT records.
Members received under the ministry of Rev Joseph: #77 Mrs. Philemon Bachelor 1805-1809-Harwinton. She transferred her membership from Harwinton to Litchfield after she married Philemon.
Lyman Skinner B and Mary were baptized in the Church.
Then on Oct 1, 1809 the records indicate she was removed to Waterbury 1st. Under the remarks it showed Mary Skinner "Lemon". I don't know if this was her nickname??
LDS film #6146, Waterbury Church of Christ records.
On Oct 1, 1809 she was admitted to the Church: "received by letter of recommendation Mrs. (Mary) the wife of Philemon Bachelor".
All of their children born after this date were baptized in the Church.
From BATCHELDER HISTORY;
"James remembers her as a tall woman with snow-white hair, round shouldered and bent, where his grandfather had broad square shoulders and very erect."
She was the opposite of Philemon as she didn't get angry easily but held a grudge for a long time. Philemon got angry quickly and it was soon forgotten.
"She had been down to make old Mrs. Whitney a visit, and coming back late, stopped at her son Lyman's to stay overnight.
They heard her coughing during the night, went to her bedside asked if she were sick. She said 'No, only tired and have a tickling in my throat. She came to the breakfast table in the morning, but ate scarcely anything, failing rapidly from then on, living only a few weeks, she died November 6, 1855 at her son Lymans and was buried on his lot in Montville.
(Most of this information was contributed by James Lyman Batchelder, and is written practically as he wrote it."
