Individual:
Her many friends in this vicinity will regret to hear of the death of Mrs. Augusta Funke, wife of the late Mr. Franke Funke, who died at Finley hospital, in Dubuque Friday morning at about two o'clock. Her demise was due to a fall on the ice about two weeks ago while on her way home from church, when she sustained a broken hip. She was removed to the hospital for treatments, but other complications developed which resulted in her death.
Her maiden name was Augusta Raker and she was born in Cosfeld, Germany, September 20, 1866. At the age of six years she came to this country with her parents direct to Dyersville. She grew to young womanhood here and received here education in the rural and parochial schools. On October 6, 1887 she was united in marriage to Mr. Franke Funke in St. Mary's Church, Dubuque, after which they established their home on a farm southeast of Dyersville. They followed the pursuits of farming until May 26, 1926, when they retired and moved to this city. Franke Funke preceded her in death August 25, 1927.
Mrs. Funke is survived by four daughters and six sons as follows: Bertha, Mrs. Frank Digman, Edgewood; Cecelia, Mrs. B.J. Pasker, New Vienna; Angie, Mrs. Anton Lux, Kieler, Wisconsin; Nora, Mrs. Cornelius VonLemden, New Vienna; Ben and Frank Funke, Greeley; Anton, Earlville; Otto and Hugo, Dyersville; and Lawerence of Worthington; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Boge, Dyersville; Mr. Elizabeth Nachtmann, Earlville; three brothers, Joe Raker, Bancroft; Henry Raker, Buffalo Center; Bernard of Charles City; 55 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren are also among the survivors.
The funeral took place Monday morning from the Steger-Hoffman funeral home at 9:30 o'clock to St. Francis Church where the solemn requiem Mass was celebrated. Rev. J.B. Herbers, Rev. Father Weber was deacon and Rev. Father Hooverman was sub-deacon. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetary. Casket bearers were the grandsons of Mrs. Funke; Ralph, Gilbert, Francis and Leroy Funke, Gerald Pasker and James Lux.
