Mr. Jos. Funke died here last Thursday at the age of 73 years, from heart disease. Obsequies were held at St. Boniface Church last Saturday morning. From the Dyersville Commercial

Joseph H. Funke, born in 1816 at Oldenburg, Germany, married Bernadine Bindlemeyer (born 1829 at Oldenburg) May 4, 1853 at New Vienna. They farmed west of New Vienna.
Six children: Bernard married Mary Hellmann of Dyersville; Anna Bernadine (Mrs. Henry Rahe) New Vienna; Mary E. died in infancy 1859; Henry of New Vienna; Clemens 1864 and Josephine 1865, both died in infancy.
Bernadine died Nov. 12, 1865, and Joseph then married Margaret Schmid (born Oct. 1846) on Jan. 16, 1866, at New Vienna. Margaret was daughter of Thomas and Theresa (Schmieberger) Schmid.
Children: Frank married Augusta Recker; Theresa (Mrs. Fred Roling) Remsen, Eliz. Josephine (Mrs. Henry Ricken) Dyersville, Anna Maria (Mrs. Ignatz Augustine), Elizabeth (Mrs. Nieses), Catherine (Mrs. Frank Vaske), Luxemburg, Rose (second wife of Henry Ricken), Joseph married Mayme Pasker.
Joseph died Jan. 9, 1890, and Margaret Feb. 25, 1880; buried at New Vienna.
