Notes
Individual:
DANIEL FOWLER: His roots have not been confirmed, but his branches spread

throughout the land.

Records indicate Daniel Fowler was born 29 February 1786 in North
Carolina. However, 1786 was not a leap year so either the date or year
must be changed unless George Washington and the American Protestants
hadn't adopted the Pope Gregory's Calendar. Present records do not give
the names of his parents but one possibility is David Fowler. David
Fowler was in Montgomery County, North Carolina in the State census of
1784-87, and also in the U.S. census of 1790. David Fowler bought 100
acres of land in 1803 in Greenville County, South Carolina located "on the
North side of Reedy River on Maple Creek". In 1811 he sold it to Samuel
Dyer and in 1812 bought another 100 acres on Guilders Creek. In 1820
Daniel Fowler bought 200 acres on Reedy River from Samuel Dyer, including
the 100 acres owned by David Fowler from 1803 to 1811. The transaction
was completed 2 December 1820. (South Carolina land records for
Greenville County: Book G page 65, Book I page 428, and Book M page 283
and 286; State Archives, Columbia, S.C.) Records also do not identify any
brothers or sisters. Coleman Green Fowler, the son of Daniel Fowler, said
a brother of Daniel come to Alabama with Daniel and later returned to live
in Georgia or South Carolina. James Fowler could be this brother, but
this again conjecture and needs proof. James and his family were in the
Fayette County, Alabama U.S. census of 1840 and 1850. James, his wife, and
their children age 12 and older were born in South Carolina according to
the 1850 census, and their children age 9 and younger were born in
Alabama. James was 46 years old in 1850 according to the census. No
census later than 1850 showed James Fowler and his family in Fayette
County, or his brothers and sisters. Census records show he was living in
South Carolina when his children were born from 1812 to 1835. Information
is not available as to when he left North Carolina to come to South
Carolina or when and were he married his wife Elizabeth. He and his
family moved to Fayette County, Alabama between 1835 and 1840, where he
lived until his death in 1872. This is by the census records showing
Daniel Fowler and his family enumerated in the U.S. census in 1840 in
Fayette County, Alabama. In the 1850 census none of his grandchildren
born in Alabama were more than nine years old, indicating the move to
Alabama could have been as late as 1840. His occupation was farming
throughout his working years. Records show he owned farm land and lived on
it in South Carolina and Alabama. At the beginning of the War of 1812 he
was 26 years old. His son Richard was born about the beginning of the war
and William was born before the end of the war. It is not known if he was
in the military service. Four of his sons, Thomas Edward, Coleman Green,
James Ransom and Joseph Daniel, were in military service in the Civil War
His wife Elizabeth died in 1864. In the census of 1870 he was listed in
the household of his son William in Fayette County, Alabama. He died 14
May 1872 at the age of 86. He was buried beside his wife Elizabeth at
Cedar Grove Church Cemetery near his home, and near the homes of many of
his children and grandchildren, in Fayette County, Alabama.
