Text of Record Book of 1st Church of Charlestown, 1673, 5/20:
Nathaneel ye son of Mr. Nath: Wade & of Mercy his wife (i.e. ye
daughter of ye Worshipfull Simon Bradstreet) of ye Church in
Andover. [Other sources say Nathaniel born July 1675. Perhaps
this Nathaniel died in infancy?]
Nathaniel Wade, a native of Massachusetts, preceded Mr. Warham
Mather as a physician in New Haven. "I may add that I suppose
it is not mere coincidence that the physician next preceding
Mather in New Haven, Nathaniel Wade, a native of Massachusetts,
was the husband of another of John Davenport's granddaughters
[Mary], a sister of Mrs. Mather [Elizabeth] and of a former wife
of Mr. Pierpont [Abigail]. Mrs. Mather, I presume, after Wade
had left about 1700, took her sister's place in the care of the
aged Madam Davenport, and Mather, perhaps as a makeshift,
succeeded to the abandoned medical practice of Dr. Wade." ("The
New Haven of Two Hundred Years Ago" New Haven Genealogical
Magazine)
