In 1734 John Bourne,Jr. sold his farm near Fredricksburg VA. and moved to
Culpeper Co, VA on the Rapidian River, with brothers Andrew and Henry.
Son Francis went to Kentucky in 1783-84 and led the "300" to Ky in 1789
in Fayette Co. in the fall of the year.
They suffered extreme hardships both going and after their arrival. Story by
Daniel Bourne as told by father, Francis s/o John, Jr. and Ellen Davis Bourne.
John and Andrew were in St. Marks Parish which soon became Culpeper County. They obtained land from the Spotswood estate (see Orange Co Deed Bk 5 p 2l0-2l8) In the first deed dated 31 Mar 1742 John and his son Francis obtained l50 acres, in the second deed on the same day his brothers Andrew and Henry, also obtained l50 acres. This land became the base of the Bourne family in VA until the later move to Kentucky.
