Harry Curry served an apprenticeship to become a pharmacist andhad or worked in pharmacies in Ellsworth and Salina, KS. He wasalso a talented artist, and executed a number of fine oilpaintings of the southwest U.S. landscape. His son Fredrecalled that he would periodically make extended trips throughthe southwest to paint. He work has been shown in Kansas Cityand in Wichita, KS.Family lore say he became a pharmacist because his mother (orstepmother) died from being given the wrong drug. 1880 census, Gallia Co., Gallipolis p 290ACurry Harry M. White Married 21 Drug Clerk Ohio Virginia OhioGallipolis Bulletin, Nov. 7, 1882, p. 3:"Harry M. Curr and bride have been the recipients of numberousserenades the past week that no doubt were quite acceptable. The funniest one, however, was on the night of their marriage. They had scarcely arrived at their new home, already prepared, when the belling band also arrived and such music--well, it wasnot of the enchanting order, but of that ludicrous, incongruous"humpth dumpty' sort that was perfectly irresistible, and yetnot calculated to soothe the savage breast nor any other sort ofbreast very much. It brought the young couple to the door in avery short space of time, when Mr. Curry told the serenaders herecognized in their music many of his old time pieces andcomplimented them on their taste of selections, etc. Afterhearty congratulation all around they dispersed to the greatamusement of everybody in the vicinity."same reference as above:"Several weeks ago we stated that everybody had his eye on HarryM. Curry. So it was his actions were unmistakable. He hadrented a house and furnished it, an act a single man is not aptto do without there's something else ahead. On the night ofHalloween, October 31st, he was married to Miss Maggie, daughterof Mr. Alexander Sherriff, Rev. G.J.E. Richards performing thedlightful service for the young couple at the residence of thebride's parents. From ther they went immediately to their home,on Cedar Street, the North half of Mrs. C.S. Smart;s residence, where they set in just like old married folks, and where theyhave been receiving the congratulations of friend, of whom theyhave scores. Success to the union."THE SALINA UNION, 22 April 1924, p. 3, Col. 4An attack of heart trouble resulted in the sudden and unexpecteddeath of Harry M. Curry, well known citizen of Salina, at hishome, 626 South Fifth Street at 4 a.m. today. Mr. Curry'ssudden death was a great surprise to his many friends, many ofwhom had seen him at his accustomed place of work at the PalmerDrug store No. 2 yesterday, in apparently good health. Duringthe past two years, however, Mr. Curry had suffered from thersults of a severe cold which he contracted two years ago, andfrom which he had never entirely recovered, although he seemedapparently in good health. He was a member of the First Prespyterian church of Salina andfuneral services will be held from the residence, 626 SouthFifth street, Wednesday at 1 o'clock, with Dr. J.F.
