Notes from Diana Kay Stonebraker-Orendorf:
John married Sarah Dalby, a decendent of the Duke of Alba, Sarah Worsham
Dalby was the salutorian of her class in college at Farmville (now
Longwood in VA) where she graduated in music. Born about 1855 and died
about 1899. John Clarence Stonebraker was a chaplain in the Confederate
Army during the Civil War. He was also a farmer and an author. (He wrote
"The Unwritten South" and another book, both which are considered rare.)
He died about 1927.
Research notes:
Sarah is included in the 1900 Federal Census. Per 1900 census record,
Clarence and Sarah had 10 children, 7 living at the time of the census.
Clarence was a farmer in Hagerstown, ED #2 outside city limits. He had a
mortgage on the farm (schedule 20). In this census, son Branch is listed
as female.
"The Unwritten South: Cause, progress and result of the Civil War" Relics
of hidden truth after 40 years. Published in Hagerstown, MD in 1908. Can
