A Family tradition says that John Fairchild came to America from England . (See Ida Fairchild, op.cit.) We have no confirming source of information to verify this. After the Wyoming Massacre in 1778, they moved to Luzerne County, Pennsylvania." -------------------------------------------------- FROM: Vida I Fairchild of Alexandria, Virginia, John Fairchild and Mary V an Dine, Descendants of, 1964, manuscript copy in the possession of, Edward Fairchild, Will of John Fairchild "In the name of God, Amen, I, John Fairchild of the Township of Newport , in the county of Luzerne, and state of Pennsylvania, yeoman, being weak in body, but of sound and disposing maind, memory and understanding, (blessed be God for the same), and considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being desirous of settling my worldly affairs, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following to-wit: Principally and first of all I commend my immortal soul into the hands o f God who gave it, and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent Christianlike manner at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named, and as to such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give, and dispose of the same in the following manner to-wit: I give to my loving wife, Mary, as long as she shall live, the use and b enefit of all my real estate to her own use to dispose as she shall see proper and all my personal [items] which I may be possessed of at that time, and after her decease, I give to my son Solomon the farm on which he now lives: two lots being No. 2 and 3 in the firstdivision and second tier of lots in Newport township, free and clear by his paying to my son Abraham, the sum of Fifty Pounds to be paid in one year after my decease; and I give to my daughter Mary Line, a lot of land in Newport aforesaid being lot No. 4 in the first division, second tier, to her and her heirs forever; and I give to my son John Fairchild, the use and profits so long as he live of a lot of land in Newport Township aforesaid, on which he now lives, and after his death I give and devise the said lot being No. 5 in the first division, second tier, in Newport Township, to his children hereafter mentioned to-wit: Solomon: John: Jacob; Peter: and daughters Rachael: Jane: Elizabeth: and Mary, to be equally divided between them the above named heirs of the said John Fairchild. I give and devise unto my son Peter Fairchild, the land and farm on which I now live in the state of Ohio, to him and his heirs forever. And I give to my son Abraham Fairchld, the sum of Fifty Pounds to be paid by my son Solomon as before mentioned. And I hereby nominate and appoint my son Solomon Fairchild and my son-in-law Conrad Line, executors of this my last will and testament. In witness here of I have unto set my hand and seal this 14th day of Aug ust in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and twenty three.
