The LeBlanc Legacy states that the Civil Records of Ascension Parish, La., dated December 30, 1783 show that a portion of Joseph Babin's estate was sold at public auction. The sale included: One Negro, named Jean, ca. 20 yrars of age of the Nagos Nation. His wife, named Susan, ca. 20 years of age, of the Nagos Nation. Their child, Felisiter, ca. 2 years of age. The three slaves sold for a total of $1,100. The entire sale was for the amount of $1566.20.
