1817 Entered July 30 , 100 ac. Grant No. 3114 from state of North
Carolina. Know ye that we for and in consideration of the sum of fifty shillings for every hundred acers hereby granted paid into the treasury by Reubin Cox have given and granted and by the presents do give and grant into the said Reubin Cox a tract of land containing one hundred acers lying and being in the county of Wilks on a branch of Kings Creek. Beginning on a white oak the corner of Fletehers old tract and runs South, Eighty poles with said line, to a Red oak, then Eastwardly Two poles to a White oak in Widdow Groves line, then north with her line to the corner and so on One Hundred and Fifty poles to a White oak, then West Seventy Six poles to a Post oak, North Six poles to a Dogwood in Witherspoons old line, then West with his line Thirty poles to a Black oak, then South Seventy Six poles to a Red oak in Fletchers old line, then East to beginning.
Entered 30 July 1817. As by plat here into annexed doth appear together with all woods, water, mines, minerals, hereditariments and appurtenance to said land belonging or appertaining to hold to the said Rubin Cox his heirs and assigns forever, yielding and paying to us such sums of money yearly or otherwise as our General assembly from time to time may direct. Provided always that the said Grantee shall cause this Grant to be registered in the registers office of our said county of Wilks within twelve months from the date here of otherwise the same shall be void. In testimony whereof we have caused these our letters to be made patent and our Great Seal to be here into affixed Witness John Brock Esquire our governor Captain General and Commander in Chief at Roleigh the tenth day of December in the 43rd year of independence and in the year of our Lord, One Thousand eight hundred and eighteen.

He died on 20 Oct 1870 in Greene County, Tennessee. He was buried in Antioch, Greene County, Tennessee. The Cox family was started by one Richard Cox who came to this country from England in 1607. He settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Later his grandsons moved to Wayne County, North Carolina.
