Solomon appears as a Private on roll of Capt. Abel Walker's company, Col. Benjamin Bellow's regiment & militia in the state of New Hampshire which regiment went and re-inforced the garrison at Ticonderoga when beseiged by the enemy in June 1777, discharged July 9, 1777, time in service 4 months, 10 days. N.H. Rev. Rolls, vol. 2, p. 33 A true abstract of record, allict Otis G. Hammond Secretary (A copy of Solomon Grout's war record as recorded by the New Hampshire Historical Society, Concord, N.H.) The above information was received from documention of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
"Solomon Grout settled on Lot 13, range 9 - the Isaac Bailey farm, - and was a road surveyor in 1774 and a Selectman in 1776." From the "History of Cheshire and Sullivan Counties, New Hampshire" J.W. Lewis & Co., 1886
