Individual:
Frederick was for a time a schoolmaster and then a journalist. He was
elected to the State Parliament of South Australia. He became Treasurerand later Premier on two separate occasions, the latter until he enteredFederal Parliament in 1901. He was Speaker of the House ofRepresentatives from the opening session until he died suddenly in theHouse in 1909.
He received a knighthood in 1902.
